There was this elephant that suddenly appeared when I drew random doodles at school [link] and he looked so cute, I had to include him in a more meaningful piece of art. I love Frank so much now. Thanks goes to =AlectorFencer for translating the German text into English the best way! Finally, she can see the picture it was for at all.
I think that less piano keys are made with ivory these days. Now they're rather made of plastic and/or wood (it's less expensive too). The result is the same. Too many elephants got shot because someone thought their tusks should become popular for things as piano keys, fashion stuff, and jewels especially worn by women. In fact, some elephant races became extinct just for money, which is really nothing more than metal and paper (can't say that often enough)! Trading that with so many innocent lives for reasons like useless decoration and fashion is just... both brainless and heartless. They hunted elephants and killed the mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, aunts, uncles... just absolutely anyone who had tusks. The cubs, which were too young to have ivory, had to watch their family die, get their tusks cut off, till their bleeding corpses eventually were left on the place where they died. The cubs would stay by their dead family, sad, confused, and scared, till they eventually die of hunger or get eaten by carnivores which like baby elephants being totally unprotected. I mean, imagine yourself experiencing that cruelity as a child!
If this pictures makes you go "Hahaha... aww!", I'm happy!
And don't ask me how Frank manages to play a piano, because I don't know!
Elephants are some of the coolest animals on earth, really. This picture is dedicated to thousands of them which got forgotten as a result of human beliefs, and unseen by the mentally blind. Also, for all elephants which ended up in zoos, or circuses used for tasteless shows with the elephants getting painfully abused behind the scenes while their training, and living chained behind trailers. Their whole life. And then people wonder why some circus elephants suddenly freaked out, crashed the show, and hurt (or even killed) people at random. They had great teachers, you know! May their trainers never rest in peace.
By the way, if you wanna see one of those scenes of elephants that freaked out in circuses, here it is: [link] (Watch from 05:19 to see the whole) One of them ran out, being called a "damn motherf*cker" several times, then they shot him. End of the story of an abused circus elephant. You should have seen that darkness in this elephant's eyes... shit, it is so scary. I silently prayed to God He MUST give that elephant's soul the best paradise to come over his pains, and give the trainer's soul the worst hell to make him feel the same pain he had given to his animals. I rarely pray. If God can't change people, I don't see a reason to pray. But maybe He can influence afterlife, at least. Noones cares about the elephant's reasons why he acts like that, because it's "just" an animal and humans are 90% speciesists (they think that they are the best species God has ever created, and anyone else is less worth) because religions told them so.
I'm an "atheist" because I don't think that God is a human (and that a woman is made by a single rib of a man... if this is true, the most mothers wouldn't be so much more awesome than fathers bearing up against lifelong pain and suffering, both physically and mentally, STILL loving their family and trying to have peace no matter what they'd personally have to sacrifice for it). I do not believe that the most cruel and sick species of this world is the image of God. And if God creates life, he must be a mother, and not a man. For me, God is "mother nature". We're all connected to her. Water, food, air... feelings, spirit, heart, soul. You can feel that connection when you go out the city and to a nature place. If not, you're mentally blind and closed. Sorry. Now go ahead and burn me for that I'm a witch.
I'd highly recommend watching the whole movie. The title is "Earthlings", and you can find it on Youtube easily.
It's awesome to see the truth instead of fiction.
Oh, and don't eat something before you watch it. __
Well, He manages to play just like the elephant in Cats Don't Dance, of course! :3
Also, I agree with you- Hunting for sport is wrong. We've lost my favorite animal- The Thylace- because of it...

This is brilliant. I love Frank's expression, and the lighting - this new colouring style of yours works really well. You make me want to try cel-shading again, which I've not attempted for years.
And I also like it because of the message behind it. I really like elephants. and they're such amazing animals. Did you know they actually have their own language? It even has syntax and regional dialects. They also have a concept of death, and they mourn their dead companions and make attempts to bury them. They've even been known to try to bury dead humans they come across. (Of course, the kind of people who think animals are automatons would probably argue that the elephants don't know about death; they'd say burial is an automatic response that stops the spread of disease from corpses.)

Your shading is like whoah! (so awesome) The wrinkles on Frank's face and neck is a nice touch. Poor Frank and all the other elephants out there The message behind this is meaningful. Stop abusing animals!
I know about language (any animal has that) and the death thing (which is so cool!) but I didn't know about the dialects. That's interesting. And yeah, totally agree with you. There are ignorant people saying that with stopping the spread of disease from corpses. Because they still buried them when they were only bones (like when lions ate one of their cubs).
The thylace and many many other animals became extinct because of hunting. I'll include that in my comic, and the fact that mankind always forgets about the extinct animal kinds because they're too busy hunting new kinds.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant.
