This is an old idea I had in June 17th 2007. But I thought it was still kinda fun, so I went to redraw/recolor it. By the way, this is not meant to be a picture to mock Rafiki at all (or is it?). Just thought this outfit would suit him.
And, LION KING FANS! I know there must be millions of you obsessed ones out there. Just do me a favor and check out the rest of my gallery as well. Sometimes it's ridiculous which deviations of mine get the most favorites, and how many. At least, few awesome open-minded people did go check out the rest of my non-fanarts and non-stamps too. Even left comments and favorites there.
I do think that Lion King is slightly over-rated, though. The art and animation is beautiful, but the story is sorta boring. Imagine the whole movie with human characters, and you'll know what I mean. A King has a son, the king's brother is jealous because he wants to be king and teams up with some punks behind anyone's back, and tries to kill both bro and nephew, while the nephew can run away in time, nephew gets identity crisis after, but then comes back and fights his uncle and becomes king. And of course there must be a girlfriend for the nephew to make it an unreasonable love story too, because love stories are popular. End.
Heh, I sorta miss scenes in which the characters'd actually take their time to talk with poor Scar about his issues and hate at all. Instead of not taking him serious during his whole life. That's like "Remember kids, if there's a trouble-maker KILL HIM. Kick his butt!"
I bet if Mufasa had only taught his bro few things about how to be a good king at all, as he did with Simba, then Scar would have done a better job in future too. Instead, in his loneliness Scar had to team up with hyenas, which are extremly cool animals in real life, by the way. I like them much better than lions.
Lions go like this. Females hunt, males eat first. In short, all the males do is sleeping, eating, and mating. The females have to make sure the family survives at all, and do the hard work, without getting a thank you or the real part of the lion share. Sometimes they even have to protect their own kids because the males could kill them in order to have a reason to mate with them again. And that's considered as the king of the animals, by humans of course. Besides, if there really is that circle of life, as they're talking about in the movie, there shouldn't be a king anyway. Anyone is part of that certain food chain, and noone can do anything about it no matter what "rank" they have.
Hyenas are way more social concerning family life than these "kings of animals". Besides, they consider their moms to be their bosses and not their dads. Just like elephants. And other social animals.
And baboons are not really the friendly sort of animals that'd love to help out with philosophy. Actually, I'm quite afraid of those omnivores, and monkeys in general. They're like furry humans to me. Especially because their males usually act quite bossy, oppressively, and rather violently towards females, and even baby females. Sick.
But oh well, Disney. Always needs to mock some unpopular animals in order to make them be the bad guys in children's eyes while making the good-looking the good.
By the way, I also find it hilarious that only Simba and Nala seem to be able to grow old in the movie, while Scar, Timon, Pumba, the hyenas, and Rafiki (especially Rafiki, who's experienced three lion generations) always seem to be the same old as before Simba has returned as grown-up. Scar should have gotten some gray hair, at least.
And Rafiki should have died by a high age someday... I mean, he was ALREADY old when Simba was a baby. Then he was still there as Simba's daughter grew up completely too. Eternal life or what?
Why did the animals celebrate the birth of a new carnivore that'd only end up eating their family and friends anyway?
Plus mandrills don't have long tails. WTF, Disney?
As for the story, it's supposed to be loosely based on Hamlet, but it's quite likely it was ripped off from a Japanese cartoon called Kimba the White Lion: [link] It was also made into a film called Jungle Emperor Leo, which in my opinion is better than the Lion King. (I'm not a weeaboo Japanophile; I just happen to like this film.) Disney may have high production values but its films are very sterile and commercial. They lack the charm that a lot of non-Disney cartoons have (Fern Gully, Land Before Time, etc.)

Hehee yar not everybody likes monkeys, even if they can be cute but the worse is the chimpanzee the males are notorious about abusing their females o=o I mean with other species the female have a little more power then youd first expect especially in mating. If the male is not completely fit to their standards he wont be getting nothing, which is totally not the case with chimps, since they are a patriarch society there the males hold control without a doubt however Bonobos (which look very much like Chimp) are ever so sweet and loving their one of the most unaggressive species of monkey they are a proven matriarch society .w. there has even been recordings of Bonobos protecting and gently cradling the body of a dead members that really even wasnt apart of their troop/direct family, simply because humans were trying to drag the body off + unlike chimps bonobos know how to share and work together together, in short Bonobos for the win ... and that right there was just rrreeaaaal random information drop that randomly got triggered by reading your description I watch to much discovery channel
